Remembered fondly: Dr Sam Ross, founder of Green Chimneys
IAHAIO is very sad to learn of the recent death of Green Chimneys Founder Dr. Samuel B. Ross, Jr. Sam was a true pioneer and visionary in the field of animal-assisted interventions, having opened a school on a farm in 1947 which went on to support thousands of children and the animals that help them and which continues with its many enriching and therapeutic activities to this day.
IAHAIO acknowledged this extraordinary work and awarded Sam and his wife Myra the first IAHAIO Lifetime Achievement Award in Prague in 1998.
IAHAIO extends its heartfelt condolences to Sam’s family and many friends around the world. There will be a memorial service on 9 March, 4pm at Green Chimneys and there are other ways to celebrate the life of Sam and ensure that his vision and work continues. These can be found on the Green Chimneys website.
