Covid-19 and companion animals
There is some fear and uncertainty following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, now termed Covid-19, including how our interactions with companion animals may be affected.
Please be aware that there is much misinformation posted online about human and animal health in this regard, which can create unnecessary panic and can lead to practices that compromise both human and animal health and welfare.
IAHAIO advises people to get evidence-based public health information and be mindful of the importance of good animal welfare practice particularly during such times of crisis.
It is important to follow the advice and recommendations put forward by respected bodies, including the World Health Organisation, the World Organisation for Animal Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association. Please also follow specific advice provided by the national health and veterinary bodies of your country.
