IAHAIO’s online conference 2026: Beyond Training

IAHAIO is delighted to announce that registration is now open for its online conference 20-21 November!

This conference explores how the field is moving beyond traditional training models toward approaches that prioritise mutual trust, respect, choice and well-being in human–dog interactions. Drawing on the latest research in canine behaviour, welfare science, and relational practice, the conference explores how trust‑based and choice-centred methods strengthen outcomes in both assistance work and therapy settings. Application to companion dogs in household settings is also outlined.

The conference invites participants to rethink what it means to “train” a working dog—shifting the focus toward shared understanding, ethical practice, and the well-being of both partners in the human–dog team.

We believe that this conference will be of interest to practitioners in animal-assisted services, dog handlers, dog trainers, program leaders, educators and dog guardians.
