Robert W. Mitchell, PhD., is Foundation Professor of Psychology and Animal Studies, and Coordinator (and instigator) of the undergraduate Animal Studies Program (the first of its kind) as well as the General Psychology Masters Program, at Eastern Kentucky University, in Richmond, Kentucky, in the U.S. He engages in research on animal behavior and cognition as well as human-animal interaction, currently focused on communication during dog-human play, and sea lion-human interaction in the Galapagos. He has published numerous articles and chapters, and edited and co-edited a variety of books, in comparative psychology, and is on the editorial board of Society & Animals, Anthrozoos, Animal Cognition, Interaction Studies, and Animal Behavior and Cognition. He is also series editor of the Animal Voices/Animal Worlds book series for University of Georgia Press.
